According to one estimate, in 1990 –91, there were 608 800 students enrolled in 1 307 primary and secondary schools, 45900 students were enrolled in specialized secondary schools, and 68 400 students were enrolled in post secondary institutions. In 1992, Armenia’s Yerevan State University had 1300 teachers and 10000 in 18 departments including social sciences and law. Eight other institutions of higher learning located in Yerevan were involved in teaching agriculture, fine arts and theater, economics, music, applied science and technology, medicine, pedagogy and foreign languages, and veterinary medicine. These figures loudly speak what level of education in Armenia despite inappropriate economic growth.
